We describe preliminary results for two ALMA projects – 1) imaging the HCN(4-3) line and H26α lines in Arp 220 and 2) measurements of the dust continuum in a sample of 120 high redshift galaxies to probe the evolution of the ISM masses. The HCN observations in Arp 220 at 1/2″ resolution provide the first high resolution imaging of the dense star forming gas in this prototypical ULIRG. The HCN is seen in two clearly delineated, counter-rotating disks. The H26α emission is the first definitive probe of the star formation rate in Arp 220, avoiding obscuration by dust and contamination by AGN luminosity contributions. A 71-year-old man was admitted with the complaint of painless tumor in the right inguinal region, one month after right hemicolectomy for cecal cancer. The tumor seemed to exist in the right spermatic cord, so right radical orchiectomy was done. A tumor was found in the right spermatic cord, but the right spermatic duct, right epididymis and right testicle were intact. Histopathological examination of the tumor revealed metastatic adenocarcinoma from the cecal cancer. Twenty cases of metastatic tumors of the spermatic cord from the gastrointestinal cancers have been reported in Japan including this case.

Mechanical activation-assisted self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (MA-SHS) in air was successfully applied to the synthesis of the powder mixtures of ZrB2 and ZrC as a precursor of the ZrB2–ZrC composite. When the powder mixtures of Zr/B/C = 4/2/3–6/10/1 in molar ratio were mechanically activated (MA) by ball milling for 45–60 min and then exposed to air, they self-ignited spontaneously and the self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS) was occurred to form ZrB2 and ZrC. The ZrB2–ZrC composites were produced from these MA-SHS powders by spark plasma sintering (SPS) at 1800 °C for 5–10 min and showed the fine and homogeneous microstructure composed of the <5 μm-sized grains. This study explored the development of a stationary robotic strawberry harvester that was combined with a movable bench system as part of the development of an industrially production system for a strawberry in a plant factory. At first the difficulty of approaching target fruit was investigated using table-top plants cultured in a greenhouse. Then the maximum force needed to separate fruit from the peduncle was measured. Based on these results, an end-effector was designed with three unique functions; (1) suction cup was vibrated to minimize the influence of the adjoining fruits at the time of approach; (2) compressed air was blown toward the adjoining fruits to force them away from the target fruit; (3) peduncle was removed with the motion of tilting and pulling the target fruit.
